Rachel Wingfield
Designed Sphere

Rachel WingfieldRachel Wingfield is currently a Research Fellow at Central Saint Martins School of Fashion and Textiles, where she is researching the role surfaces and textiles can play in increasing energy efficiency, becoming active and self sufficient.Sphere By Rachel Wingfield

Based in London, Rachel set up Loop.ph with Mathias Gmachl to create and develop new reactive surfaces and structures. Her work has been exhibited internationally with the British Council and she has recently exhibited at the Design Museum and the V&A Museum in London.

For Rachel, design is the ability to learn from efficient systems in nature to improve living. “Nature is a huge influence in my work with a vast source of ideas that can be applied to design. I try to capture the dynamic, rich display of botanical life into everyday surfaces and have been inspired by the flowering and growth of plants. I constantly look to reference and learn from traditional and historical sources of decoration and embellishment, and I welcomed the opportunity to transform the plain surface of Sphere into an expressive, adorned object of the utmost intimacy.”

Tom Dixon OBE
Designed Bone, and Ring (Limited Edition)

Tom Dixon Tom is currently the Creative Director of Habitat, the home style and furniture retailer, and also runs his own design company, Tom Dixon. In 2000, he received an OBE for his service to design and innovation, and is one of the most acclaimed names in today’s design world.Bonebag3

Tom believes that design becomes interesting when you start looking at areas where design has never gone before. He felt that this uncharted territory was particularly evident in sex toys. It seemed extraordinary to him that objects destined for such intimate and pleasurable use were so devoid of quality in terms of design, manufacturing and material.

With Bone, Tom set out to address this by creating the finest vibrator ever made. The ergonomic shape of bone was inspired by ancient fertility symbols and in this modern incarnation the shape creates different intensities and patterns of vibration from different areas of its surface.

Mari Ruth Oda
Designed Pebble

Mari Ruth Oda Mari-Ruth Oda is a Japanese sculptural ceramicist who lives and works in Britain. Her work is inspired by the calm and serene environment of the traditional Japanese architecture and gardens; a quality she also strives to apply to her sculptures. Mari is also inspired by fruit, the human figure, the landscape and other natural forms. Mariruthpebble

"I am interested in how the body becomes a negative space when moulding itself to the positive space of a human form. This interest encouraged me to make an object of beauty that would be tempting to hold and to explore, or explore with."

Marc Newson

Marc says “Diversity makes me happy. I see nothing strange in designing everything from a private jet to a sex toy, , there are obvious technical differences but the main difference is one of scale. I have personal relationships with all of my clients, when somebody asks me to do something for them, they’re getting a little bit of my DNA – appropriately enough in this case! My best ideas always happen at strange moments . . .”
